A little over a year ago, CastBack co-founders Justin Sivils and David Wines recognized a much-needed gap in the fly fishing market: a way for hobbyists, guides, collectors, etc to buy and sell their own fly fishing equipment amongst themselves.

At CastBack, our mission is to connect passionate anglers with the finest used fly fishing gear and equipment through a simple and secure online marketplace. We are dedicated to providing access to high-quality secondhand fly fishing products from other community members. Our goal is to enhance every angler’s journey, from novice to expert, ensuring they have the right tools and resources (at the right prices) for success on the water.

eBay has long been the online marketplace for buying and selling secondhand fly fishing equipment, but being a “marketplace of all trades – and master of none” can make it frustrating to track down that specific rod or reel you’ve been searching for. Further, eBay’s minimum advertised selling fee of 13.6%* is a hefty price for your average angler. Social media marketplaces and independent forums come without the fees but often are geo-specific and/or have no way of providing secure transactions, particularly if the item is being mailed.

On CastBack, creating an account is free, buying items from other fly anglers on the site is free (save for the price of item and shipping), and listing fly fishing items to sell is free; the only time sellers are charged is after a successful sale. CastBack charges a 5% transaction fee plus 2.9% processing fee** for 7.9% overall. In addition to the low selling fees, CastBack donates 5% of annual earnings to supporting Project Healing Waters – a non-profit dedicated to healing veterans through fly fishing and fly tying activities. That means, the more you buy and sell on CastBack, the more gets donated to this wonderful organization.
